Tickets for the event ore now ON SALE at the QMU Box Office/Reception.

There will be a very special announcment regarding surprise guests for this event very soon – so be prepared!

Although the Official End of Term isn’t until the 29th May (where Cheesy Pop will still be ending your year with a bang!) we decided to bring you a huge party to end your year at the University of Glasgow.

Unlike most “Proms”, this one is strictly informal, and black tie or evening wear is not required – the emphasis is on having a great time – no one wants to be stuck in a suit until 6am! Yes, 6am!

On top of everything that Cheesy Pop normally brings you each and every Friday night, you can expect to see some very special guests take to the Qudos stage to give your year the send off it deserves!

See you there…

So, Freshers’ Week… the best week of your lives.

Not only that, but the best week of our lives too. We love nothing more than seeing thousands of happy Freshers having a brilliant time throughout the week. Being a Freshers’ Helper means you have to work really hard – doing PR, running and preparing for events, late nights, etc, but it’s absolutely brilliant fun and it means you get a chance to represent your Union and can have Freshers’ Week all over again!

Applications are now available for Freshers’ Week 2010, via the link below, or on paper at the QMU Reception. So what are you waiting for? Go and pick one up, or click the link below and print one off, fill it out hand it in! Just make sure it’s back to us 4pm on April 30th and you’re in with a chance of being involved in one of the biggest weeks of the year!

The UK’s largest Vintage Fair hits Scotland

Vintage fashion is where designers, celebrities and London’s street savvy fashion warriors find their inspiration. It’s no wonder that The Affordable Vintage Fair is in its 5th year, holding the crown as the UK’s fastest growing vintage shopping event.

On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March The Affordable Vintage Fair will roll into Edinburgh and Glasgow for the first time! Set up by former Selfridges stylist Judy Berger, the Fair has toured the UK since 2005 holding events for merchants of vintage clothing and accessories to get together in one space and cater for all the vintage lovers that have come to know the joys of embracing second-hand style.

After paying £2 to get in, which allows you to go in and out as many times as you would like throughout the day, you will be greeted by rails of swinging 60s dresses, 50s teddy girl jumpers, 40s gowns and racks upon racks of stunning clutches, shoulder bags and purses, and dozens of tables laden with piles of trinkets. There will be large menswear stalls selling vintage Barbour jackets for £45, shirts and tweeds from £10. Also, kitsch hand-made jewellery with Alice in Wonderland and Pop Art themes, 50s and 60s Mad men style frocks, Mary Quant tights, and hand made headwear. Newcastle based, award winning Designer Karina Hesketh will be selling her stunning hand made leather bags, each one intricately hand stitched and adorned with vintage fastenings and fabrics.

The Affordable Vintage Fair consists of only the best vintage retailers and traders from cities far and wide. 40 stalls will be offering vintage clothing, accessories & homewares dating from the 1920s – 1980s. All stalls are price checked to reflect huge discounts, on average 40% lower than vintage available on the high street.

The fair has been heralded as a ‘shopping phenomenon’ by the national press and holds regular events in cities including London, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham Oxford and Cambridge. It is also the only event to debut a ‘Dead stock stall’ where vintage clothing dating back to 1970, previously hidden away in a Scottish warehouse will be unearthed, pristine and unused.

Vintage fashion guru Judy Berger is the founder of the event, she said; “Bringing the event to Scotland was a natural progression for us. Over the last two years we’ve seen a huge increase in people coming to our events. People still like the high street but are tired of seeing everyone wearing the same thing. Our events are like treasure chests, you have to dig a little but you end up finding a true gem without having to spend a fortune.”

The Affordable Vintage Fair is an unmissable experience, not only for vintage enthusiasts but for those looking for a genuinely unique day out.
