Gigs
The QMU is a legendary gig venue. In years past we’ve played host to Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Franz Ferdinand, Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol, Tenacious D, The Fratellis, and The Proclaimers among countless others. We still have Kurt Cobain’s footprint as our most prized possession in our safe from when Nirvana played in 1991. Make friends with the President and you might be allowed to see it.
View listings of all our gigs.
Social
The social calendar consists of much more than just gigs and clubbing. We also host many other events held throughout term-time for our members.
Ever been in a bar or pub and thought “the music here is rubbish”, and can’t find anything decent on the jukebox?
We all have, and after a suggestion from one of our members in a focus group, the QMU presents iDJ.
Bring along your MP3 player to Jim’s Bar on Monday nights from 8pm, and you can plug in your music to our sound system to share your favourite songs. Get the chance to chat and share your music taste with the bar, or take the opportunity to promote a recording of your own.
See you there!
The Big Wednesday Night Pub Quiz – Wednesdays 8pm

Every Wednesday at 8pm you can expect to find Jim’s bar packed out as hosts Ruaraidh and Toby take to the stage with the Big Wednesday Night Pub Quiz. Accompanied by our very own DJ Shamrock providing classic pop tunes through the night you can expect the hosts to provide great banter and some great question rounds guaranteed to get you thinking (and hopefully win you some beer and up to £50 in bar vouchers). Each week we also give you the chance to participate in stage games where you can win a selection of new release and classic DVDs.
As if all this wasn’t enough, watch out for our once monthly Super Wednesday Night Pub Quiz where we basically just give you more of everything. More DVDs, more vouchers and more rounds!
Jim’s Bar 8pm – 11pm

Unplugged is the QM’s very own open mic night where every week from 10 til 1am you can take to the stage and perform anything you want – from singing, to stand up, poetry reading to interpretive dance – whatever you want to do the Jim’s bar stage is open to you. Hosts Cristin and Shonagh provide you with acoustic music throughout the night and even give you a bar voucher if you come up and perform. So if you’ve had a bit of crazy week studying why not come down for a quiet drink with your mates and unwind while you listen to some great music?

Friday Face Off is our quickfire quiz brought to you at 4pm just when your lectures should be over for the week and you feel the need to wind down and maybe win yourself some beer and cocktails. Join Nick and Holly as they provide you with three quiz rounds including the timed puzzle section and science round with its now infamous ‘name that nut question’! We even have our own Friday Face Off t-shirts and badges to give away each week. So join us from 4 til 5.30pm.
The QMU Whisky Club – Monthly Saturdays, 8pm
The Whisky Club started this summer and has been met with great enthusiasm. It was established with “the object of promoting the advancement of general knowledge and enjoyment of whisky throughout the known universe and beyond”.
You can become a member once you have attended one of the monthly club meetings (tickets for which cost £10).
Each club meeting involves the understanding and tasting of a range of expensive or rare whiskys. The Club prides itself on hosting nights for beginners as well as experienced whisky drinkers, and meetings are capped at a certain number of people so make sure you get your tickets quickly.
