     Committees

The QM's committees are the simplest way to give back to the organisation and have a say in how the QM’s activities and events are run, as well as scoring those all-important volunteering points. From student journalism to event-planning, charity fundraising to DJing - the QM’s committees offer a variety of interesting ways to get more than just a degree during your time in Glasgow.

    Campaigns & Charities

The QM has a rich tradition of working with charity organisations and involvement with student campaigns, both locally and nationally.

The Campaigns and Charities Committee is fairly self-explanatory. Each semester, one charity is chosen to be supported by the QM. The Committee sell glowsticks, facepaint and the like at QM events to raise money. On top of this, they are the point of contact for campaigns on student issues, like the QM's Movember effort, and our events in the SRC's Health Week.

The Campaigns and Charities Committee also operate the discrete free condom scheme, giving out gratis johnnies [and more] twice weekly in the Union.

If you want to get involved in the charitable aspect of the QM, or would like to influence the union’s stance on student issues, come along and get involved.

The C & C Committee meet every Monday at 5pm in the Boardroom.

    Events

You didn't think the QM's bangin' clubnights ran themselves, did you? The QM's very own Events committee help to plan and run everything that you can see on Tuesday and Friday nights in the union.

From the text request screen at Quids, to the camera-wielding folk at Cheesy, the Events Committee are there to make sure all parts of the QM clubnights go smoothly. The theme and content of our huge events, like 10- and 12-hour, Late, Late Hogmanay and Hallowe'en are planned in the Events Committee as well. When they're not helping out, you will find them in Qudos. Dancing. Badly.

Maybe you want to get experience in organising events, photography or design. Or maybe you want to learn how to tech. setup a venue the size of Qudos.

The committee is a closed committee, but applications will come up at various points in the year. Also every first Tuesday of the month will be an open Events committee, so come along and pitch in.

The events committee meets every Tuesday at 5.30pm in the Boardroom.

    Publications

The QM’s magazine, qmunicate, has the best track record and reputation of all publications on campus. Entirely written, designed and edited by students, getting your name into a respected publication that has won numerous Herald Student Press Award prizes - including best magazine (twice) - is as easy as rocking up at the Publications Committee with an idea and the ability to write in a way that relates to students.

Whether your talent lies in writing, design, illustrating or even proofreading, there is a place for you in Pubs. The magazine contains news, cartoons, media, culture and a diverse features section, so you can write about anything that interests you and that might interest your fellow students (within reason). The theatre, film and music sections have a seemingly inexhaustible well of music, movies and gigs for you to review, for free.

The Publications Committee meets every Wednesday in the Boardroom at 5.30pm.

    Social

The QM’s Social Committee oversees the union’s weekly events that aren’t clubnights - B.W.N.P.Q., Unplugged, New Comedy, New Theatre and Karaoke - and lets you have a say in every aspect of them.

If you want to take a shot at helping run any of the QM’s social events, come along to the Social Committee. From here you can gain experience in every aspect of the union’s daily hijinks: DJing, hosting, writing and booking. If you’d prefer to learn how to set up the technical aspects of the events, like setting up a PA for a Jim's Bar quiz, or even a band, you can learn that as part of the Social Committee as well.

The Social Committee meets every Thursday at 5.30pm in the Boardroom.
