Board of Management

The QM is run by the Board of Management a team of student volunteers who’ve chosen to increase their involvement in the QM. Being a Board Member goes beyond the committee structure, and is a chance to take on the responsibility to represent the needs and views of thousands of students and gain experience in running a busy charity organisation.

Want to be on the Board? There are two elections a year - the Autumn By-Election [in Autumn] and the Annual General Election in March. When an election is called, head into the Union to grab a nomination pack. It's that easy.

THE EXECUTIVE

The student volunteers with the most responsibility at the QM are the Executive Committee, a three-person team you’ll find in a slightly cramped office on the third floor.

President - Kirsty Hill

The President is the public face of the QM and are effectively responsible for organising and coordinating everything that happens in the Union.

Honorary Secretary - Liam Hainey

The Honorary Secretary oversees the QM’s interaction with its membership, liaising with clubs & societies and organising union surveys. They also make sure that your QM members card can get you into any other students’ union in the country, a useful benefit if you fancy taking a city-break to Dundee.

Honorary Assistant Secretary - Colum Fraser

The Honorary Assistant Secretary - this year Colum Fraser - is responsible for making tea and holds the honorary title of King of the Photocopier. They write and distribute the minutes from most union meetings, train and oversee the rest of the Board of Management, organise the elections and are responsible for keeping the QM’s Constitution, Byelaws and Policy.

THE CONVENORS

For each of the QM’s four committees, a convenor sits on the Board of Management, who is responsible for the activites of the committee and making sure that members’ ideas and opinions are listened to and valued. Each convenor does more than simply chair the weekly committee meetings, and each has a slightly different role in organising and working with the committee.

Campaigns & Charities Convenor - Ellie Munro

The C&C convenor chairs the C&C committee, and thus coordinates all of the many fundraising efforts in the Union, including the big events like Jailbreak, the Big Hunt and the Red Ribbon Ball. They also run all of the QM campaigns that aim to make your time in Glasgow safer, happier and more fun.

Events Convenor - Lauren Clarke

The Events Convenor and their committee work to make the QM clubnights the go-to place every Tuesday and Friday. The Convenor coordinates all ideas and is involved in the planning, preparation and running of all the big nights like Hallowe'en, 12-hour and the Late, Late Hogmanay.

Publications Convenor - Nina Ballantyne

The Pubs Convenor has responsibility over all printed aspects of the Union. As Editor-In-Chief of the award-winning qmunicate, they make sure that the magazine is full of great writing, and without spelling mistakes and potential libel cases. They also produced the Freshers Handbook that welcomed you all to the University.

Social Convenor - Patrick Hughes

The Social Convenor chairs the Social Committee, and is thus responsible for all of the organised chaos that you'll find in Jim's Bar most nights of the week. Everything from picking quiz markers, through booking comedians, to organising karaoke hosts is under their remit.

Ordinary Board - Convenor: Alice Stearn

The majority of the Board is made up of Ordinary Board Members. Without them, the QM could not run. They are the ideas machine of the union, sitting on several committees and attending the fortnightly board meetings in which all union activities are proposed and reviewed. There are twelve Ordinary Board positions, with both six-month and annual terms, and three positions are exclusively reserved for first year students.
