Services and Facilities

Find out a little more about what the QM has to offer below or click here to explore the building using our virtual tour.

Coffee Bar

The QMU’s Coffee Bar on the ground floor not only guarantees you a good cup of coffee but one that comes from a Honduran co-operative of producers who are fairly paid and use traditional, environmentally-friendly techniques. The Queen Margaret Union is keen to raise awareness about issues affecting people throughout the world; by buying this coffee you help producers get a fair price for their produce.

On busy clubnights or at gigs, you can also avoid queuing at the other bars by picking up a drink or snack here.

Shop

The Shop stocks a wide range of confectionery, snacks, sandwiches, drinks, stationery, newspapers, magazines, cards and even Calculators and Lab Coats.

Current opening hours: Monday to Friday 0800 - 1830

Qudos

The best student club nights in Glasgow happen here, and you can find out more about them here. With two clubs a week it’s a very busy place, but there’s a lot more happening in Qudos than just clubnights. Qudos is also graced by one of the biggest TV screens in the city and was host to one of the biggest Tartan Army parties for the final European Championships qualifier recently against Italy.

For live music, Qudos can rarely be rivalled. In recent years bands such as Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro and The Fratellis have all played here as well hosting a fortnightly showcase of the best local and national Independent music with bands like Kobai, Union of Knives and The Kazoo Funk Orchestra all playing at RAW.

Jim’s bar

Here you’ll find cheap drinks and a great atmosphere, any time of day. There’s only so much you can say - it’s a bar, and it’s the best one there is. Try it: you’ll like it. Open til 2am 5 days a week in term time, 3am on Friday and Saturday. Jim’s Bar is also the place to be for our famous pub quiz on Wednesday nights where you can win big prizes. On Thursday nights, Jim’s hosts Unplugged, our extremely popular open-stage acoustic night. Whether you play a guitar or a biscuit tin, you’ll be welcome on stage at Unplugged… not to mention getting a free drink for the first twenty performers each night.

Games Room

The Games Room is packed with pool tables and arcade machines, and is a great way to waste entire days/weeks/years. If you need change for the tables or machines, you can get some at the bar. There are two £250 puggies so if you’re into spinning wheels and flashing lights there is an alternative to Nicky Campbell and Jenny Powell.

Every Wednesday there is a Pool Competition where you can test your mettle against some of the best players at Glasgow University and win some bar vouchers while you’re at it.

Pool costs 50p a game which is as cheap as you can find it anywhere. Just make sure you don’t spend six hours playing and then realise you’ve spent 20 quid on pool. Unlike other places, you can have a table for as long as you like at the QM. When you want to play pool than you just have to go to the bar and give the bar-staff your matric card in exchange for the cue ball. If there are no free tables then you can put your name on the waiting list and you will be called when one becomes available.

Food Factory

The place to eat on campus. It provides hot meals, with a veggie option, soup, pizzas, salads, filled sandwiches and baguettes as well as a broad range of snacks, drinks, yoghurts, and sweets.

You can also get breakfast from 8-11.30am everyday so there’s something to look forward to in all those early morning lectures.

Lacuna

Lacuna is your space - we’ve fitted it out with power sockets and wireless internet so you can take your laptop and study away from the hustle and bustle of the library…

The advantage of Lacuna is that we have a cafe and coffee bar too - so while you study or have a quiet chat, you can grab anything from a hot toastie, panini, baguette, bagel, and anything inbetween - all with a filling of your choice. We’ve got a selection of tasty donuts and pastries as well as the usual selection of soft drinks and of course coffee.

In the evenings, Lacuna is transformed into a hive of activity with a number of small clubs on the go. Recent times have seen Stitch’n’bitch, where you can go and have some knitting and, well… bitch. They were complemented by Picto Bitch, with their Nintendo DSs at the ready. We’ve had retro gaming nights where we got old Megadrives and Playstations for people to reminisce about old games.
