About the QMU
The Queen Margaret Union (QMU) is one of two student unions at the University of Glasgow. Founded in 1890, the QMU was historically the Ladies’ Union but, as times began to change in the early 1980s, both Unions started to join up members of both sexes .
Having been set up to cater for the social and cultural needs of the students of the University of Glasgow, the QM offers a range of services including catering, coffee bars, regular bars, late-night clubbing, live music and interactive entertainment such as pub quizzes and pool competitions.
Everything the QM provides, from booze to banter, creates a real community. You’re guaranteed to see someone you know and because it’s run by its members it keeps getting better year after year.
The Union is run by Board of Management who are elected from the membership in bi-annual elections. They run the Union according to the Constitution and attend fortnightly Board Meetings to formulate Bye-Laws and Policy with which to run the building in a way that benefits you. The Board is divided into the Executive, Convenors and Ordinary Board.
You will probably see these hard-working individuals running around in Board Member shirts with radios in hand on busy clubnights making sure your night is the best it can be, as well as propping up the bar at Cheesy Pop every Friday after a long week having spent most of their waking hours in the QM. Come and chat to us if you have any problems or think we could make the QM better!
