The Ting Tings – Review May 24th 2008
Listening to the shouty vocals of Katie White performing ‘Great DJ’ you’d be forgiven for assuming she can’t sing – an assumption proved entirely wrong by The Ting Tings performance at the QMU in May. Lucky enough to witness part of Katie’s soundcheck before she played to the sold out venue I was pleasantly surprised to witness a tuneful, melodic rendition of ‘That’s Not My Name’ and realised this was going to be a great show. Song after song got teens and adults alike jumping enthusiastically around to The Ting Tings’ infectious electropop sound.
With a camera placed just below drummer Jules De Martino the crowd could clearly see the energy put into making this 45 minute set one that packed a punch. Yelling energetically into her mic, stamping her feet and banging her drums Katie is anything but a “quiet girl.” Bringing the evening to a close with the bands’ latest hit ‘Shut Up and Let Me Go’ it’s unlikely the crowd will forget The Ting Tings’ name in a hurry.
