Atreyu, Still Remains, Engel - 14th November 2007
As promised, OC rockers Atreyu graced the QMU stage for the fi rst night of their 2007 tour this week, bringing with them Engel and Still Remains. Engel kicked off the night’s entertainment, playing a good opening set and had the packed hall jumping. Still Remains were up next and wowed the audience with immense guitar solos and screaming lyrics.
They warmed the crowd up nicely with their own brand of heavy metal. Tireless energy and enthusiasm were apparent during their 45 minute set – which in fairness, should have been much longer.
This was only the third time the American group have been in Scotland, and the buzzing audience were only too glad to welcome them back. Best song by far - Stay Captive. Headliners, Atreyu retained their popularity; with the hall absolutely packed, there was hardly room to move.
The Californian five piece had the crowd pulsing as their set began with Bleeding Mascara, frontman Alex Varkatzas putting on a continued feast of indulgent energy - especially when he took his top off to reveal some very sexy tattoos!
With a varied set of both old and new material they had the audience enchanted and bouncing along to their spectacular drum beats.
Due to the QM’s curfew the band were hurried off stage when it seemed they could have played all night. With an amazing encore including a cover of classic tune You Give Love A Bad Name and a great rendition of Lipgloss & Black. A really good night, well worth a fifteen pound ticket. The album Lead Sails Paper Anchor is out now. In fact, hotfoot it to HMV and buy it.
