FW 2006: Wednesday
Wednesday of Freshers’ Week 2006 is dedicated to making you laugh, with 2 pub quizzes, a funhouse for you to bounce around in, and comedy throughout the night, followed by a set from the Subcity DJs. Remember, you’ll need a Freshers’ Pass to get in to any of the night-time entertainment.
Comedy
We’ve brought you 4 of Britain’s funniest up-and-coming comedians to entertain you through the evening, because sometimes it’s good to have tears in your eyes and feel your muscles ache.
Warren Speed
An experienced host of live stand-up comedy shows, Warren always likes to have a bit of a banter and a laugh with the audience, and always ensures the show rolls along smoothly with his high energy, off-kilter jokery.
Duncan Oakley
Duncan Oakley is known for being very naughty and really quite rude – at least on stage – but this cheerfully childish behaviour belies his credentials as a seasoned professional show off. He’ll blow you away as he powers out a deft blend of stupidity and truly impressive musicianship and you’ll quickly warm to his easy confidence and charisma.
Des Clarke
The Award-winning Scottish comedian regularly sells out large venues during the Edinburgh festival with his machine gun delivery that is utterly unique and totally hilarious. A very funny man, with much experience: he was one of the presenters on “SM:TV” along with Cat Deeley, as well as hosting BBC Scotland’s live “Children In Need”.
Daliso Chaponda
In all likelihood the only comedian to ever come from Malawi in Africa. Daliso honed his comedy talent on tour in Canada, and has recently been performing fantastic shows around the UK. Destined for very big things in the comedy world, this is one guy you have to see.
Subcity Djs
Subcity Radio brings you the station’s deepest bass, and heaviest beats. NASA and Full Phat are an integral part of the Glasgow club scene, and are sure to make your night memorable.
The Big Wednesday Night Pub Quiz
Called the best pub quiz in the country by The NME, The Big Wednesday Night Pub Quiz in Jim’s Bar is typically student, with hosts Andy and DJ NuStart. Amongst general knowledge rounds there’s a video round which has seen Thomas the Tank Engine talking like a Jamaican, and the ‘Blatantly Stolen’ round which has ripped off everything from Deal or No Deal to Your Face or Mine.
Beat the Barber
Risk losing your hair to win some great prizes including an iPod mini. Or, if you value your luscious locks too much, you can just laugh at those other people getting shaved on stage!
Funhouse
Remember Pat Sharpe’s mullet, the twins, and that real wacky show where anything goes? Well we’ve brought all the best bits to the QM so you can feel like a kid again with a bouncy castle, sumo-wrestling suits, a huge Skeletrix track, foam shapes, circus tricks, and computer games.
