FW 2006: Thursday
Full of some of the best music in Glasgow, from the open-mic afternoon, to the massive launch of our electro-indie club night, Crush with Mcsleazy and the Backstage Sluts, Freshers’ Week 2006 Thursday is going to be great. Remember, you need a freshers pass to get into the evening events.
We launch our new club night with a bump!, as we remix and mash up the best indie, electro and pop with resident DJ Mcsleazy (XFM). You’ll soon be asking for more, but we take no responsibility for the state of your eardrums by the end of the night. They won’ t know what’s hit them. DJ/ Producer and all round bootleg master Mcsleazy has spent 2005 on a high remixing Britney Spears, supporting The Charlatans, and producing a single with MTV’s Leki, Breakin’ Out. Many will know the name McSleazy bootlegs – Franzie Boys (a Franz Ferdinand vs Beastie Boys mashup EP) was a bestseller in HMV, and Alex Kapranos from the band admitted buying and loving it! Q Magazine declared it one of the top 100 best tunes of 2004. He’ll keep you guessing and dancing all night long.
Goose
They sound grimy and highly addictive. Once you hear their songs, you’ll definitely recognise them, and, if not, you soon won’t be able to get them out your head. Goose produce fine electronica that’s fun, quirky and very sexy. They’ve featured on 2 TV adverts, and have taken Radio Soulwax by storm.
The maestros of mashup, the bad boys of breakbeat, the funky, the cheeky, the just plain filthy Backstage Sluts are coming to Qudos tonight. Their lively personas, combined with their fantastic mashups, make for an unmissable night. In their time, they’ve remixed everyone from political metalheads Rage Against The Machine, to indie overlords Velvet Underground, to princes of Baltimore rap Spank Rock (and who knew there was even a way to make them more dirty?). They have a simple method: sifting through each song with a fine-tooth comb, they find what makes it rock, prune away the crap and create track after track of unstoppable dancefloor filler.
In their time, they’ve supported such names as The Prodigy and The Streets, playing to capacity crowds and selling thousands of pairs of official Backstage Sluts knickers. For them, Backstage Sluts is not just a name, it’s a way of life – they’ve dedicated themselves to livening up any party they find themselves at.
