FW 2006: Friday
Fridays, have, and will always be Cheesy Pop. The original and best. The biggest night on campus each week will be even brighter, fuller, and louder in Freshers’ Week 2006. Glasgow favourites Sambayabamba will entertain with our special theme. Dress up, dress down, relax and have fun. It’s going to be great.
We kick off every year with a different take on our most popular clubnight, Cheesy Pop, which is exactly what it suggests. You’ll hear all your favourite cheesy music from DJ Toast – even the stuff that you’re too embarrassed to ask for – but this time there will also be a great carnival atmosphere as we present Mardi Gras Cheesy Pop.
Whistles, beads, feathers, masks, balloons: you will definitely feel like you’ve just stepped into deepest Brazil tonight.
Get your whistles and dancing shoes at the ready. This Samba band may be Glasgow-based, but you’ll think they’ve come straight from the brightly coloured, spangly carnival streets of Brazil.
Instruments ranging from lentil-filled water bottles to huge bass drums to trumpets are pounded, shaken, beaten and blown by over 15 band members, and the results are breathtakingly huge rhythms. These range in style from the traditional Bhangra samba to the more unusual influence of Drum n Bass.
Despite Samba Ya Bamba having travelled throughout the world performing at festivals for over 9 years, their performances are still unique and always different, so whether you see them once or doesn’t of times, you won’t be able to resist shaking your booty all night long to these sounds.
Film Day
Watch the blockbuster slapstick comedy film Wedding Crashers on our big screen. Breath-holding embarrassments, pretty ladies, handsome men and a whole lot of fun that will possibly offend but definitely entertain. There will be a bar and hotdog stand, too.
Subcity Djs
Subcity Radio proudly presents their very best DJs that have frequently got over 2000 people rocking at their events. Bringin’ the funk will be: The Ill Technique, Rab’s Boutique and the Full Homeopathic Orchestra.
Debate
A chance to awaken those brain cells that have probably been dosing for the past week. This debate will see some of the best speakers on campus battle it out in a discussion about censorship.
Mousetrap
Roo and Scott will prepare you for the crazy night ahead with this part gameshow, part quiz. With everything from guess-the-theme-tune to Play Your Cards right, Mousetrap is definitely a unique experience and trip down memory lane. Don’t forget to try the unique cocktails we serve, only on Fridays.
